U.S.C.G. Barque Eagle
River Street announces U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle to arrive on Savannah’s Riverfront!
The Savannah Waterfront Association is very proud to announce that the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Barque Eagle (CGC EAGLE) will sail into Savannah on Friday, July 30th! She will arrive mid to late morning after receiving a cannon salute as she passes by Old Fort Jackson. Join us on the river as we welcome the Crew and Cadets and experience the breathtaking site of a tall ship coming up river to our city!
The CGC EAGLE is a 295-foot, 1824-ton, steel hull, three-masted sailing vessel, and is the only active tall ship in U.S. government service. It has been training future U.S. Coast Guard officers for more than half a century and, despite being of 19th Century technology, CGC EAGLE continues to produce leaders of character for the nation’s smallest armed service.
The CGC EAGLE will be moored at the River Street City pier west of the Hyatt Hotel (at the base of the Barnard Street Ramp). CGC EAGLE will be hosting free tours for the public on Friday, July 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Public Tours will be held on Saturday July 31, and Sunday, August 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The Savannah Waterfront Association, Ltd., Savannah Council of the Navy League and City of Savannah will host a Savannah-style welcome for the CGC EAGLE on Friday, July 30th at 2:45pm. The official welcome will include City of Savannah Alderman Larry Stuber presenting a key to the City of Savannah to Captain Eric Jones, commander of the CGC EAGLE. The public and media are encouraged to attend to help show our support for the Coast Guard.
