Out of all of the festivals and events on River Street and in City Market, none is bigger, better or greener than their St. Patrick’s Day Festival. Vendors will line the street with gifts and goodies and bands perform live music on stages all over downtown Savannah. River Street serves as the hot spot where the real St. Paddy’s Day party is. Guests can hit up River Street for a good time with great jams or grab a drink and some food.

A few years ago, the City of Savannah instated a control zone that requires a daily wristband for consumption of alcoholic beverages during the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, inclusive of the Festival and some of the parade route. This was introduced to help with crowd control as well as pay for all expenses that make the biggest party in town happen.

The boundaries of the control zone is as follows:East Broad Street to MLK Boulevard. River Street to Broughton Street, west of Drayton Street, Bay Street to River Street, east of Drayton Street.

This year’s wristbands are priced at $10 for each day and available for purchase at booths in the City Market and River Street areas. Payment can be made via cash or in advance by credit card and keep an eye out for signage for the booths. Remember, you need a valid ID and be over 21 years old to be able to purchase a wristband. The wristbands will have different colors each day of the event and non compliance by wearing the wrong color or not wearing a band at all, can be fined in excess of $50.00.
